About Elizabeth

Welcome! I’m so happy you are here. I am Elizabeth McAdam, a licensed professional counselor and certified Perinatal Mental Health professional offering virtual services throughout Georgia.

I’m passionate about offering space for women to feel heard and navigate the unique challenges of the role of mother. In particular, I love to help women connect to their own inner wisdom to gain resilience for the inevitable highs and lows of parenthood.

My own experience transitioning into motherhood inspires me to support others on this transformative journey. I was so grateful to have therapeutic support during the postpartum period, and want to offer that to others going through the experience. I am here to help women feel heard, supported, encouraged no matter what their journey looks like.

The process of becoming a mother is one of the most complicated stressors we may experience, especially so in today’s culture. Although so many of the experiences related to motherhood are universal, we often don’t have the space to discuss them. We can sometimes take for granted the challenges we go through as women.

Common experiences like pregnancy hardship, loss, mental health and fertility challenges, postpartum and parenting struggles often go undiscussed, which leaves us feeling more alone. Sometimes these topics can be so loaded that we don’t feel that we can even discuss them with our closest friends, spouse or parents, for fear of judgment or touching a nerve.

I feel that the challenges we go through make us stronger and more resilient when we have a place to safely process them. Through hardship we can grow sturdier in ourselves, and at the same time, feel less alone.

How I help you

As humans we know in our heads that we need to take care of ourselves first, but our role as women often has us last on our own lists, taking care of everything and everyone else. No matter what circumstance you are currently experiencing or how you may be feeling, we start where you are.

Once I understand where you need support most, we work together to understand how you are feeling, where that may have originated, and how you would like to grow and feel good each day.

I work from the belief that you are your own healer and the expert on your life, and my role is to hold space for you to process through experiences and emotions. This process is not always comfortable, but the vision I have for how you feel coming out of therapy is lighter, less burdened than when you came in, hopefully with a new perspective and trust of yourself.

I work by listening closely and offering you space to view your thoughts, emotions and body sensation as parts of you, but not all of who you are. Through this type of mindfulness, anxiety and depression are reduced, and our nervous systems are calmed.

If any of this resonates with you, I would love to talk with you more. It would be an honor to support you on your journey!

FAQs

  • I am out of network for insurance carriers. I have found that simplifying billing allows me to offer better quality care to each client as I can spend more resources for client care vs insurance billing.

I can provide a superbill, or an itemized receipt of services that you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

I am also a provider with the Georgia Fund for Perinatal Mental Health, an application based fund for up to 15 fully funded therapy sessions if you meet the criteria.

  • There is no right or wrong answer to this question, but therapy is a process that unfolds naturally over the course of the relationship between client and therapist, which happens over time. It’s ultimately up to you and what you need to feel well. We can work together to determine your goals and what is right for you.

Sessions are most often weekly or biweekly, 50 minutes in length and held via telehealth. To get the most out of the process, consistency is important, whether you are wanting a short or long term treatment plan.

  • Before the first session I will send you an intake packet with information that will help me get to know you, as well as informed consent, credit card authorization, and any relevant mental health screening. I that information to guide our first session and understand how you are feeling and what you hope to gain from therapy.

  • Absolutely! One of the benefits of telehealth is that you can do therapy in your own environment, bring baby, and feed and care for them during session as needed.

  • First, reach out and schedule a free 15 minute phone call. You can ask any questions you have to see if starting therapy is a good fit for you.

If you decide you’d like to start therapy sessions, I will send you some paperwork to get started and we can schedule our first session.

If it doesn’t feel like a good fit, I have referrals to share. It’s so important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, so that you can get the most out of it!

  • I use a platform called Simple Practice, a secure electronic health record that allows you to schedule appointments, communicate with me, and provides a link to each telehealth session.

You will get a reminder with a link prior to any scheduled session and you can use your mobile device or computer. It’s a good idea to make sure you’re in a private environment that you feel comfortable in for therapy.
